Every other Thanksgiving, we have been taking family pictures. You can go HERE and see the last family picture. As you can see we are missing one member of our family and we gained another. My brother Matthew is serving a mission for our church in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Annie was born in April! My family doesn't exactly like taking pictures so enjoy the few...

Marvin had just been hunting the week before Thanksgiving and this was the bull that he got the last day that he was out. We thought it would make a perfect picture op for Annie!!!

Home Sweet Home!!

Dillon has become my second home over the last 2 years and I love spending time with my sister-in-law Charlie and niece Toni. We always have great fun. I feel so loved by both, but especially by Toni when I walk in the door of the house and she always gets excited and runs to give me a hug!!

We were in Dillon two weeks ago so the boys (our husbands and brother-in-law) could set up their tree stands and do some scouting. I got one quick snap of Toni and she looks so grown up. Then we went horse back riding and it was my first time. Nothing crazy since we had Toni and another little girl that Charlie was watching but it was a beautiful day and the horses were amazing.

Shannon & Floid were married on July 16, 2011 and it was a beautiful quiet ceremony with close friends and family. They were married at the Veterans Memorial Rose Garden in Missoula. It started out as a partly cloudy day, we had sun for the ceremony and 5 minutes before pictures at the park were done it started raining. The storm passed quickly and their reception was at the Eagles Club in Missoula.

It was a great atmosphere full of love for the happy couple with their 5 kids to make a complete family!!

It's Amazing...

It's amazing how technology is advancing. I've had ups where I always feel inspired to take photos and I have downs where I have no muse in sight and I'm stuck. With my iPhone4 that has changed. It seems that I have limitless possibilities and I'm invincible.

Don't worry. I haven't put the real camera away. I still use my Lumix GF1 often. It's just easier to use the phone to catch moments that I wouldn't be able to with the others on the fly.

I have more photos to post that I did take with the Lumix GF1 but I'll have to do that later.

You, well, I can never take enough photos of Dandelions. To everyone else, they are just an obnoxious weed. But to me, they are beautiful and magical. I get transported to another reality when I'm photographing their simplicity!! :)

This is a home grown tomato from our garden. I love walking outside every morning and seeing the fruits of my husbands labors.

Who needs to wait for the rain? My husband just watered the garden and the droplets were beautiful.

The bee just flew in there when I snapped the picture. I love happy accidents!!

Again, put me in a field or on the side of the road where there are Dandelions and I will entertain myself for hours. :)

Dew drops on my Grandfathers lawn. The beautiful droplets were screaming my name. I couldn't resist. :)

A thunderstorm as we were driving to Dillon MT from UT. I tried to get lightning in there but it didn't work. It was fun though.

Instagram is an app for the iPhone and it helped me turn this image from "yes I know what that is" to "well, I'm not sure how this works...."

I love that I take AT LEAST one picture a day and it's convenient to do it on the iPhone.

It helps me be more creative and get those shots that catch your breath and make you dream and wish for a simpler time.

Freddie J is my best friends first baby! He was born September 30 and is such a joy. My husband and I got to spend the weekend with them a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed our little vacation. Let me tell you that the best way to keep a baby happy and entertained, as well as warm, is to let the air from a blow dryer flow over their little body! Flaming Pumpkins 2010

My parents neighbors, every Halloween, set pumpkins a blaze and have a little party. I've always enjoyed watching fire and being able to get close and photograph it. It was really fun! Happy Halloween!

Bonfire

At least once every fall we have a bonfire. But they aren't just a normal bonfire. We start with a pit that's 4 feet deep, pile wood in there and then create a tipi of wood that's about 25 feet tall. So by the time the flame is at it's best it's about 60 feet tall. When the flames are that tall it's really bright. But here are the best images!

I got a new camera several months ago. It's a Lumix GF1 with a fix 20 mm pancake lens. You've seen it's work already with Kacia and Gabes wedding but here are some other random photos that I've taken with it. I carry it with me in my purse at all time so that when I'm on my break at work I can go for a walk and take some photos. Enjoy!

Katy is my best friends mom. She is planning on auditioning for a roll in a new movie that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is planning on starting filing for sometime this year. Part of the auditioning process was to sent in some head shots. So on a rather brisk cloudy Monday evening, we headed out to Maclay Flats and have a mini session amongst the mosquitos. My husband and I got married on May 15, 2009 and we decided to go back to where we got married to celebrate! I drove down to Utah and visited the Salt Lake City Temple and the Draper Temple. I never once took out my professional camera but I did have fun with my little point and shoot and was very impressed with some of the results. I hope you enjoy!

On Friday night, before we headed out of town, we went back to Temple Square. It was an amazing night and it's so beautiful there. Here are some of my shots on Temple Square....

Wow! It's been a really long time since I've posted something and I apologize for that. I started a full time time job just a few days after my last post. I've been really busy with that and with it being so dark when I come home, well, I'm sad to admit that I haven't shot much. But I'll post two of my favorite shots from a shoot that I've done between then, and now!

Self Portrait

I gave myself a goal back when I was attending Summer Intensive before I graduated. I wanted to take a real self portrait before the end of 2009. I had no idea what that meant, but I wanted to accomplish it. As time went by I thought about it often. What it was that I wanted. I wanted something that showed me. But what is ME?! Was it things. Events. People. What was it that said me? One night my husband and I sat down and talked about it. I had to do some serious soul searching and realized that it wasn't WHAT I did... It was the confidence that I had when I was doing it. I didn't need to be some where or have something in my picture to create that perfect self portrait that I wanted. I just needed to be confident. So, after figuring that out I tried to take a few and wasn't getting want I wanted. So I gave up for the time being. Then over Thanksgiving when I was taking my family portrait I saw in myself what I was looking for. So, today I went for it. A self portrait session in my house with the sun coming through our front windows perfectly.

Clouds

When I first started taking pictures, I would photograph the clouds and the sunsets. Well, on one of our weekend adventures this past month, I saw some beautiful puffy clouds and it reminded me of the small and simple. How simple things can amuse simple minds. My brother has a fascination with clouds too and so I challenged him to only shoot the clouds if he sees something in them. Well, while we were driving and I was photographing the clouds because I was in awe, my husband leaned over to me and asked me if I saw something in them. I had to think for a minute. I didn't, but I was at peace looking at them. I was lost. Maybe it's not so much what you see that makes you want to capture what's in front of you, but wanting and being able to capture the feeling you had at the moment. When I look at these pictures, I get the same feeling. I think that means that I've accomplished something!! :)

I took a walk

I made the mistake of not taking my camera with me on a walk the other day. I ended up kicking myself for the rest of the day and kept trying to figure out when I could go back and shoot what I saw... Hoping it wouldn't change. I ended up making it back there two days later.

On October 16, 2009, I graduated from the Rocky Mountain School of Photography.

It's crazy to think that it was this time last year that I was still debating whether or not to register.

I'd gone to a conventional college. I didn't like it. The atmosphere wasn't what I wanted and I was struggling to find a way to take photography classes with out having to do all the general stuff. I searched. I googled. I felt stuck. One day I came across the Rocky Mountain School of Photography (RMSP) on a google search and was intrigued. I bookmarked the website and visited it often. Reading over and over again the course outlines. It was exactly what I wanted. But then, things started to add up. And I mean the money. Everything I looked at I wanted to do and it just kept getting more and more expensive. I didn't have that much money and well, I waited and procrastinated. For another year I check the website often and eventually requested a catalogue. I was so excited when I got it in the mail. The catalogue rode with me in the car. Went to work with me. Anywhere I went, where I might have a free moment to look through the catalogue, it came along with me. I knew where each session, weekend, career training course was in the catalogue. It was kind of sad if you think about it. I wanted to go, but money was the issue. So was the fact that I'd done enough new things and started over enough in the last few years, that I wasn't ready to take the leap of faith.

I came down to the point that I was desperately looking around for someone to answer questions. I didn't know who to turn to and I didn't feel like I was getting the exact answers that I wanted from the few sources that responded. So what did I do?? Being religious, I turned to prayer. I prayed. What should I do? What's my next step? A few days after I prayed, what I considered a miracle, or a helping/guiding hand came along. I went out and got the mail, and there was a post card addressed to me from RMSP. I flipped it over and there was an invitation to the weekends course that was being held in Missoula!!! My heart jumped! I looked up the cost and it didn't seem to expensive...but I kept mauling it over and over in my head. Afraid that it would be too intense and I wouldn't like it. I finally said to myself, 'If I don't like the first day, then I don't have to come back.' I signed up for the weekends course and the rest is history. I went and was hooked. It was intense. But I walked away from the experience full of all this new information and wanted more. It was that weekend that I finally made my decision to sign up for Summer Intensive 2009! Or what I thought was my final decision...

I kept telling everyone that I was going to school. That I was going to be going to the Rocky Mountain School of Photography during the summer of 2009, but I hadn't registered. I was still stuck. I had made half of the decision to go and the money side of the decision was the hardest part. Spring came, summer followed, and fall came quickly around the corner and I still hadn't registered for the course yet.

I was dating Marvin at the time and I would talk with him about school. Talk with him about photography and what I wanted to do. We talked about how scared I was and that I was too afraid to fill out the form. Well, fall turned into winter and Christmas was just around the corner and I still hadn't registered. Marvin was bugging me about it more and more. Telling me that I needed to hurry up and get on the ball or I would miss the train for the 2009 Career Training Program. I had the registration form on my bookshelf, but there is sat. Incomplete.

Marvin came over to my house on Christmas Eve, walked me into my bedroom, sat me down on the floor, grabbed my registration form, my check book, and a pen, and said "I will sit here with you while you fill these out." And there he sat, while I filled out the form and wrote out my check. In an envelope they went, and into my mothers possession to be put in the mail before I had a chance to take it back. Now, it was time to wait.

Not more then a week or so later, I got my packet in the mail congratulating me on being accepted to the Career Training Session of 2009. From Summer Intensive (SI) to Nature and Landscape Photography for a week course through Advanced Intensive (AI) and graduating on October 16, 2009! I was all ready to go. Marvin was whole heartedly supporting me and helping me make sure that I had all my supplies. Little did I know at the time, that Marvin was planning on being there ALL the way through!

Marvin proposed on Feb 1, 2009 and we were married May 15, 2009. Two-ish weeks before school started! While on our honeymoon in Hawaii I got a phone call from RMSP informing me that the Nature and Landscape course had been cancelled. I could get my money back, or I could apply what I had already paid to another course of my choosing. So I reviewed the catalogue and made my selection. I would be taking Modern Studio and Wedding Photography instead.

SI started on June 1st with Orientation and we were sucked into our schedules the following day. We had class scheduled from 9am-1pm, 2pm-6pm, and 7pm-9pm. We could have all three class times in one day or we could have none or a combination of anything you could think of. The schedule was never the same on a day to day or a week to week basis. It was intense. You learned a ton and things moved fast. You'll work lots, sleep little but enjoy every minute of it. It's the only school where you'll learn that much in that short of time and feel complete! I graduated on August 14 from SI and had a week off before completing both Modern Studio and Wedding Photography. AI started on September 8 2009 and the class times were a little shorter. We were scheduled from 9am-12pm, 1:30pm-4:30pm with an occasional lecture from 7pm-9pm. A little less intense, but we had learned all the basics at this point, now it was time learn the business and explore more options inside of the programs we used. On October 16, 2009... I graduated from the Rocky Mountain School of Photography Career Training Program. I am now a certified professional photographer!!!

Since I've been in school and graduated, I've shot one wedding, two senior portrait session and one baby session. I've also done some fine art work in the mix and I love it all. It nice being able to make money doing something you love!!

School may be over, but my life is just beginning!!! :)

Marvin is my amazing husband! He's been amazingly supportive of me during school and I've been very grateful for him! He doesn't exactly like getting his picture taken, but he put up with me one day while waiting for a photo shoot and let me take a few. These are my favorite so far and they make me happy! My First Fall Photo Shoot!

Well, this was my last photo shoot with dandelions! It snowed this morning, so I'm sure they're all gone. I had an afternoon off one day and drove out to Huson where Marvin was working and I find this little dandelion that stole my attention for about 45 minutes to an hour. Time flew by so fast and I loved every minute of it. I'm looking forward to next year when they start coming back!!!

BEAST!!!!

Ha Ha! My brother in law Joseph shot a bear a couple weeks ago. My husband and him went out one night after work and found a several bears. This one was about 150 lbs. and they would very nice and never once made me look at it. That night the came in the house and both laughing and smiling said "Now we know what it's like to wrap and drag a dead body!" I thought was disgusting and didn't realize what they meant until I walked out the house on my way to school the next morning. I step foot outside my house and there was the bear, wrapped in a tarp with the house over it keeping it cool. The creepy part... It looked like a dead body!!

^This was taken that afternoon as my husband started unwrapping the body for our photo shoot!

^It was really hard to shoot the bear. I almost puked three times. It's easier to look at in black and white then color.

Lab Fun

In tonight's lab we actually had a fun assignment. We were to extract a person into another image and make it look visually pleasing. I haven't had a lot of time to get out and just shoot for fun in a few weeks, but I pulled these two images together and it looks kind of cool. The background image was taken up in Skalkaho in the Bitterroot and the image that was extract was Haeli and Jaxon. I hope you enjoy!!! (Haeli, let me know what you think!!!)

Fusing Photos

In class a few days ago we learned how to fuse photos together using regular technics and also HDR. I took four or five different images in different exposures and fused them together using a program called Photomatix. So here is my image! It was fun!!!

Unfortunately we used a trial program so the software name is all over the image. But it was still cool to see the change.

Wedding Photography Day 5

GRADUATION DAY!!!
We spent the day talking mostly about post production work. How to pull together things after the wedding and how Steve and Sophie like to work and what their system is. We also talked about Senior Portrait sessions and how their business works in that aspect. They were very open in letting us any questions we wanted. They ranged from "How do you market yourself for Wedding and Senior Portrait Photography?" to "What do you do about insurance?" They were more then willing to answer any and all questions!

Below are the images that submitted for the final project. They put all of our favorite 5 images from the week together and played them to Hundred Years by Five For Fighting. My images were the last to show up and I thought it was cool timing that the last image was the detail shot of our guestbook and my bouquet and ring. Here are the final presentation images. Wedding Photography Day 4

On day 4 we shot details and what is called 'trash the dress'. The details was probably my favorite party because it's low key and you can take your time and really get into the small things. They had props for us, but I wanted to shoot the stuff from my wedding. Below are a few images from the details section of the day...

^Obviously this the guest book and the bouquet and my ring from our wedding. The guest book was hand made by my sister.

^This is the wedding cake that the school provided! I found that I have a new found fascination for tilting my camera when I take pictures.

^Just a fun detail shot of the limes on the table! I loved the colors.

Later that evening we took models out to trash the dress. The first few images are more like senior portraits then trash the dress... The last few are them in Frenchtown Pond trashing their clothes.

Wedding Photography Day 3

On day 3... All of the models that we had for the whole week, (we 4 groups of models) turned into our Bride/Groom/Wedding Party. We went to a church in town and learned how to shoot a ceremony and then took turns shooting group portraits outside of the church. I had forgotten to charge my batteries that night before so I had only half a battery left. We all shot one by one watching everyone arrange the bridal party in any way they wanted and we could shoot along. I had no idea where I was going to fall, so I only shot when it was my turn. And I was the second to the last person to shoot the bridal party. Here is the one pose and the one image that I like out of the 23 I shot.

^This image is edited. More then just the saturation. We didn't have to submit this one in a critique because Steve and Sophie were there the whole time watching us shoot and critiquing us there. Sophie also helped me edit this one and make it better. It was cool to see the process she uses and it makes my images look good!

Wedding Photography Day 2

On day 2 we spend the afternoon with the models as if it was a bridal session. The bride was in a wedding gown and the groom in a suit. The section that we were assigned to shoot in that day was over by the carousel and the play ground. I thought it would be fun to figure out things inside the play ground area so that is where I shot for my time alloted.

For the critique the next day, they asked us to submit one first shooter shot that we didn't like and the a favorite from both the first and second shooter. Below are the images I submitted...

^This is the first shooter shot that I hated. I wanted the horizontal full body, but there were posts in the way and the lighting made it too busy. It was cool in there, just not cool enough for a Bridal Session photograph.

^This is a first shooter shot that I loved. I loved the lighting and the color and it was just cool. There were kids trying to climb up the slide so we had to shoot fast.

^This is a second shooter favorite. I wanted to do this pose when I was first shooter but I ran out of time. I suggested this pose to the guy I was shooting with and he loved the idea and went with it.

Wedding Photography Pro Studies

Day 1:
I have to start off by saying that the whole week was totally amazing and worth every penny and second. Steve Winslow and Sophie Lane are absolutely amazing!!! I was glued to them and the conversation always and they made photography fun again! The pervious week in Modern Studio, the instructor kept telling me over and over again that all my images were underexposed. I couldn't understand why. They looked good to me when I put them on my computer and other peoples images looked overexposed. But this week Sophie helped me to see how and why my images may be underexposed depending on the situation. They answered all the questions I had and many that others had and spent the time teaching us amazing things and helping us understand everything from the photography aspect to the business aspect. It was great and I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in Wedding Photography!

These images are the ones that I submitted the first day of class. The instructors wanted to see where we were at in our work. I shot my best friends wedding the weekend before the class started, so I submitted three of the photos I took at her wedding!

On day 1 we met our models for the week and spent that day shooting them as if it were an Engagement Session. Our models were great and they did everything we asked them to. All week we practiced shooting as a first shooter and a second shooter. At times I felt more comfortable as a second shooter then a first shooter... But both were fun to learn. The photo shoot took place at Caras Park all week. Below are three of the images that I submitted for critique the next day! (I should also add the disclaimer that the only editing done to most of the images this week was the bump up the exposer just a little. Otherwise, they are straight out of the camera!)

Day 4 we were supposed to take pictures of food. We went to the Break Espresso in Down Town Missoula and I didn't like any of my actual food shots but I liked the shots of the place that I took. So here they are.

Day 2 we spent the evening photographing "weddings". The school hired models to pose as wedding couples. The first couple was married a month ago. The second couple just graduated from high school and their dating. The third couple is just dating as well. It was a fun experience.

Seriously Behind I know...

The last few weeks have been super crazy with a million little assignments and not enough time in the day to get everything done.

This was a studio assignment done a few weeks ago. It was lighting glass and shiny metal correctly. The shiny metal was way harder to work because you have to try and minimize your reflection as much as possible. The teacher said that I had done the best with the colander so far and that meant a lot to me. I had gotten so upset about it that I finally gave up... but both images turned out great!

Another studio assignment. We were shooting "small and large groups" but they weren't exactly small or large. I did take the photo with myself in it. Gotta love the 10 second self timer. (Which I found out that 10 seconds is actually a long time.) The second image is my group shot. We were pretending to be the band that does "Addicted to love". You can YOUTUBE it if you feel so inclined but I decided to depict that groups album cover.

This was for a visual studies assignment. We needed to find an artist and mimic what they did. I picture Laszlo Mahogy-Nagy and did perspective. I loved the perspective of this image and I've kind of fallen in love with it.

This was another assignment that we did recently that was abstract.

It looks like that's all that I've needed to catch you on. This session is coming to a close and there will be a lot more images to post. I'm working on my final project right now. I'll get those images posted soon and the whole presentation/installation too. Then after that is our final slide show of 6 images tat we've doing during this session that we like the best. Those will be posted soon too. I hope that you've enjoyed this so far.

Midterm Slide Show

I was going to post this before the presentation which was yesterday but I couldn't find the time to upload the images. Right now I'm a little hesitant to post the images because I didn't get a very positive critique yesterday. The only positive feed back I got was they liked how I started playing my song 10 seconds before the slide show started. I'm going to start off with some information in hopes that I can make myself feel a little more positive about the images and how they are arranged!

We had to have a theme. It could be simple. It could be complex. I chose water because I love water. It's calming and relaxing to me and I was opening to do something wouldn't create to much stress for me. I wanted to be able to enjoy the process. Water is relaxing for me and the intention was to display the peaceful or the relaxing sensation that water can bring. When we presented we chose a song that we want to fit the mood, the feeling, whatever. I picked a cover of the song Bella's Lullaby from Twighlight. Feel free to listen to the song while you're viewing. I don't know how to put the song on here or to even create it in a slide show fashion for you. But the slides were up for 5 seconds and so some images you didn't get to dwell on and others felt like they were up for too long. I'm just going to post the images and not in any particular order and I hope you like them. Please leave comments and feel free to critique what is here.

Another Lab Assignment

This was an in class lab assignment that I just completed tonight. We had to convert color images into black and white and create a slide show. Every single one of this images was once in color. Some have an antique sort of look to them and others have a misty look. I hope you enjoy them!
